Thrift store:

Most of the funding for our current programs comes directly from thrift store revenue, so its success is very important.
Volunteers interested in the thrift store have a variety of areas to work in (and may work in all the areas on any given day, if desired).
Jobs may include , educating people on what we are doing at the store; assisting someone in bringing donations in or their purchases out; keeping the store neat, functional, and fun; window displays; assisting someone in the cat adoption room, etc.
Companion Animal Foundation is also looking for volunteers to help out in the thrift store. Jobs include sorting, tagging, arranging, window and shelf displays and more! Stop by and pick up a volunteer form or dowload one from this site if you are interested.

This is one of our favorite volunteers, Pamela!! She gives of herself tirelessly volunteering in the store, feeding and trapping ferals, running errands, socializing and medicating kittens, and generally lifting morale!!! We love Pamela!!

SNAP Program (Spay/ Neuter Assistance Program):

CAF offers spays/neuters to low-income individuals for both dogs and cats. Volunteers interested in this program will talk with people (usually over the phone) to make sure they qualify (qualifying persons usually have a Medi-Cal card, are on disability or are a good Samaritan helping ferals). Volunteers also directly sign up a person with one of our participating veterinarians. This is extremely gratifying work, as you are participating in lowering our pet overpopulation by helping those who truly need assistance.

Adoption Program:
We have new kittens and cats come into our adoption program all the time. Volunteers screen calls, go and look at kittens, take in and test kittens for parasites, leukemia, etc. (training is provided for kitty care) and facilitate their adoptions. Sometimes bottle feeding is necessary before a kitten can come into the adoption room. Volunteers also call back new guardians to make sure all is going well and they also call veterinarians to make sure appointments are honored.

Kids Care Kitty Care:
This program signs up a parent and child(ren)( )years of age and older to care for our kitties for one hour one day a week in the adoption room. The goal is to provide experience for the child in caring for animals and to create an awareness of an animal's needs. The child is responsible for all aspects of kitty care, including feeding, observation, cleaning, charting, tucking into bed, etc. Visit us and pick up an application if you are interested.

Kitty Follow up:
Do you have the purrfect phone skills? Do you have 1-2 hours a week to do follow up calls on behalf of the kitties we have adopted? Please stop by and fill out a volunteer form.

Adoption and Special Events:
Do you want to help animals, but don’t have much time on your hands! How about assisting one day a month at an adoption event, fundraiser, or other special event? This could include setting up animal cages and table displays, talking to the public, helping to handle the animals, facilitating adoptions, clean up, and transportation. These events are always high energy, fun-filled, and very rewarding!!

Foster Parenting
And last, but certainly not least, we are always searching for volunteers that are willing and able to foster kittens. This can include many situations including, but not limited to, socializing with other cats/dogs/animals/people, bottle feeding, taking your foster charges to the vet if necessary, or just providing food, water, and a safe, loving environment for a foster cat to stay in until we find him/her a furever home.
